Float like a butterfly, or sting like a š bee?
Seems like all the buzz lately is surrounding the monumental rise of a small little ESP which packs a serious sting!
Yepā¦ weāre talking about Beehiiv.
Seems like everything on twitter is all about how much money theyāve raised recently and the amazing social media campaigns they are running to promote themselves, so I wonāt get into any of that.
What people should want to knowā¦
Is Beehiiv a Legitimate ESP That Can Deliver?
To answer that question, let me share with you what Iāve discovered after migrating a small but mighty political poll site libertysurveys.com over to Beehiiv.
The migration was seamless and we were off to the races. We had zero issues with our deliverability, and have been able to scale the list as you can see below.
Numbers can be deceiving as we purge unengaged subs frequently from our lists, and if you can remember, we only send to our actively engaged or newest subscribers and not the whole list.
So out of the current list of 77K+ our active sending segment is only 53K+.
Our unsub rate 0.3% and spam complaints of 0.16% in the email above is pretty consistent for a political newsletter.
You can see above when our active sending segment was at 37K we had a similar unsubscribe number and our spam rates were 0.12%
During the entire time, our domain reputation has stayed HIGH.
And the IP Reputation associated with Beehiiv has also been HIGH the entire time.
If we look at our most recent delivery stats below we can see that we are inboxing at almost 75% across the major ISPās.
As a political publication, Iām quite happy with these stats. There is no issue with our domain reputation or IP reputation so delivery is there.
PRO TIP: Sometimes the ISPās filter your content just because they want to not show it to people who they think wonāt like it (helping your complaint and unsub rates).
Donāt believe me? Check out the stats for these Big Boys below!
At first glance, you can easily see how these political publications donāt have the deliverability of the newsletters I shared last week.
So when you compare Liberty Surveys (which leans conservative š¬) to these well-seasoned and established media brands things are looking pretty good.
Newsletter | Inbox | Spam |
---|---|---|
FOX News | 57.8% | 42.2% |
Newsmax | 84.6% | 15.4% |
The Epoch Times | 87.8% | 12.2% |
Liberty Surveys | 74.4% | 25.6% |
Not going to say thereās a conspiracy or anything but FOX News has the worst deliverability of them all. š¤
These brands have lower-than-expected delivery rates across the board on both Yahoo and AOL, which are known to have a liberal bias.
Newsletter | Gmail | Yahoo | AOL |
---|---|---|---|
FOX News | 46.84% | 73.84% | 76.36% |
Newsmax | 91.05% | 72.88% | 75.80% |
The Epoch Times | 96.61% | 68.46% | 73.56% |
Liberty Surveys | 86.59% | 69.54% | 71.48% |
If you take a look at the deliverability for liberal sites you can see a much different picture of deliverability.
Newsletter | Inbox | Spam |
---|---|---|
CNN | 97.0% | 3% |
MSNBC | 97.4% | 2.6% |
Politico | 99.4% | 0.6% |
Looks like zero inboxing issues and near perfect deliverability for both Yahoo and AOL. š®
Newsletter | Gmail | Yahoo | AOL |
---|---|---|---|
CNN | 96.00% | 99.79% | 100% |
MSNBC | 92.68% | 99.54% | 100% |
Politico | 98.81% | 99.82% | 100% |
Maybe @beehiiv has a liberal news-focused site we can run a deliverability report to see if those numbers are much higher then we have for Liberty Surveys.
But that being saidā¦ I believe our deliverability stacks up with the best.
The Consensus Isā¦
ā YES, Beehiiv is a legitimate ESP!
They are a true player in the email space, and not just some viral marketing scheme being pushed by a loyal tribe of zombies.
If you follow email best practices which Iāll continue to share, there is no reason why you canāt scale your newsletter with them.

Iāve used a number of email service providers and am still diversified across 4 different platforms.
I have 4 newsletters now on beehiiv including this newsletter, but will keep my other ones on the other platforms they are currently on.
Not because I donāt love beehiiv, but I never want to have all my eggs in one basket.
Same with my investing strategy.
Done that in the past and got burnt when a platform I was on got totally blocked by all the ISPās.
Iāve learned my lesson, so hopefully you donāt have to.
If youāre a media brand with multiple newsletters/publications, I highly recommend for you to diversify on several platforms.
Feel free to reply with any questions you may have about my experience.
